ARTICLE ON THE 1ST ANNUAL GLENN PRAY AUTO SHOW

On Friday evening June 11th, there were 22 Auburns and Cords displayed under the driller at the Leake Auction Site, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There were four, (Corvair powered) 8/10 Cords. One 1936 Cord, one 1936 Auburn, one, 874 Auburn Dual Cowl Phaeton (one of eighteen built) one Duesenberg, one Auburn Speedster on a Rolls Royce chassis and one Auburn Speedster with a Viper engine and drive train. Then there were two 1932 Auburn Speedsters, and 10 more Auburn Speedsters. You talk about something to see: this was it. A report was given to us that the 600 cars in the auction were great, but the real car show was outside, under the Tulsa Expo Driller.

Dean Kruse and his family came out and visited with Glenn Pray for about 30 minutes. They told him they wanted a picture of him and his cars, autographed, for placement in their museum.

On Saturday morning there were 40 cars at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Factory, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. There was a line of Auburn Speedsters that went from one end of the factory to the other, parked side by side. Across from them were 7 of the Cord 8/10's. And of course, we had 10 of the kit cars sitting out by Elm Place to draw the people in. There were around 300 people thru the factory that morning. The Broken Arrow and Tulsa papers came out to cover the story. The Broken Arrow Mayor Richard Carter came out and picked out his favorite Auburn, Cord and Kit cars.

Saturday evening 112 people attended the Awards Banquet. The Broken Arrow School System catered the meal. After dinner, the silent auction items were sold to the high bidders.

The Awards were given for the Farthest Distance from the North, East, South, and West for each group. The South Auburn went to Dr. & Mrs Randall Northcut, from Longview, Texas, 750 miles. Auburn North to Paul Onsrud, LaCrosse, Wisconsin, 875 miles. Auburn East to Myrna & Jim Schild, Columbia, Ill 400 miles. Auburn West to Joe Kerker, Sand Springs, Oklahoma. 25 miles. The Cord Awards went to: For Cord North to Art Maimbourg, Sand Spring, Okla, 25 miles. Cord West to Wil Miles, Orange, Calif, 1431 miles, (And drove on to Memphis, Tenn. and back to Calif). Cord East to Tom Norman, Signal Mountain, Tn, 750 miles. Cord South to Felix De Geyter, Broken Arrow, Ok 2 miles. Kit Car Awards: North to Jim & Diane Fonzo, Wichita, Kansas, 200 miles in a 27 Bugatti. Kit South to Ben Miller of Norman, Okla. 135 miles in his GT40. Kit west to Gordon & Jane Burba, Moore, Okla. 110 miles in their 64 Austin Healy, and from the east Arley Owens, Owasso, Okla 25 miles in their 39 Jaguar.

The Mayors Awards went to Dwayne and Alice Winkler, Bartlesville, Okla for their 866 Auburn Speedster. Art Maimbourg received the Mayors Award for his Cord 8/10, and Earl Laney of Broken Arrow received the Mayors Award for his Excalibur.

Then the fun began. The door prizes were given away. There were Auburn ID Plates, Auburn Hubcaps, Auburn and Cord Sales info, and many more items, that Glenn and Felix supplied and other items that where given to us.

We hope everyone received something to take home.

Glenn Pray was the speaker, and told some of his stories, of when the cars broke down, ran out of gas, and all the other trails and tribulations that you go through owning these fun cars.

After Glenn's speech the Documentary "PRAY'S PASSION" was shown. Dr Matt Jenkins, of the Cameron University, who made the Documentary, was there to show it. He is to receive an Award from the University for the Documentary in the next few weeks. Over 50 copies of the Documentary were sold during the show.

Some of the group went to the LaQuinta Conference Room afterwards for a drink and fellowship.

On Sunday, seven of the cars went to downtown Tulsa to the Brady Historic District and displayed their cars and roamed around.

Other people that came to the show were: Dr. Merlin Mauk, Sacramento, Calif, he's an ORIGINAL OWNER AND STILL HAS HIS 1966 CORD #62, with over 106,000 miles on it. Mike Phillips, Tulsa, Samco Cord #3, Ed Stiles, Sallisaw, Okla., Auburn Speedster, Leon & Francis Campbell, Bartlesville, Ok #66 Auburn Speedster, Herb Krombhoz, Cincinnati, Ohio Cord Prototype #4, Jim Kostakis, Licking, Mo. 866 Auburn Speedster. Glen Simke, Enid Okla is an Original Owner of his Auburn 866 Speedster, started out for the show and had car trouble and had to turn around. Glen we missed you at the show, but we'll see you next year.

Monday, I went down to see Glenn and see how he was feeling. He had been busy all weekend signing autographs and enjoying the people and cars. He said, "That was the greatest weekend I've had in 35 to 40 years." I don't think we can top that.

THANKS to those of you who came. I hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as Glenn did. The reservations have already been made for May next year. A special Thanks to the Dr. Doug Pray and the Pray family for all the help putting this show together.

I'd like to see everyone there.

Glenn Pray Auburn/Cord Group NEWS

November 2004

Trip to Auburn

On Labor Day weekend we went to Auburn, Ind for the Big A.C.D. Show. We took the Auburn Speedster (#40 of the 138 built by Glenn Pray). There were approximately 30 2nd generation Auburn Speedsters in the park on Saturday.

There were four of the Glenn Pray Speedsters, and the rest were from other manufactures or kits. They had 300 to 400 ACD cars in the park and in the parade. It took almost 2 hours to run all the cars from the park to the Town Square. There they were displayed for the balance of the afternoon. There sure were a lot of pretty ACD cars.

The Kruse Auction also was going on that weekend. The Auction covers 480 acres, so if you want it, it was there if you could find it. The size of the Auction was very over whelming.

There weren't any Cord 8/10's at the show this year, but I know that we will have several there next year. The Auburn Trip was will worth the time and money.

CORD Update

We have located 48 of the 97 Glenn Pray Cords built. The list of Samco's is growing. The Auburn Speedster list has increased to 27 cars. If you know of an Auburn or Cord owner that hasn't heard of the Glenn Pray Group, have them get in touch with me.

Visitation Of Cord #10

My Wife (Patty) and I made a trip to Hawaii to visit Rick Burke and his Cord #10. This Cord lived in Tucson, Arizonia for many years, in a pole shed. Number 10 now lives in Kaneoke, Hawaii, on the east side of Oahu. The view is great, overlooking the bay. Rick plans to have the Cord finished by June 2006. It is now drivable, but needs chrome, paint, and carpets. It's a very nice complete car.
